Facing Life's Challenges...
Challenges such as depression, anxiety, addiction, or relationship difficulties, however painful, allow us to look more deeply at ourselves and find new solutions. There are times when we may need to feel extra support, and when an outside view helps us to gain clarity and insight. At other times, we may want a guide to help us dig deeper into past issues in order to understand and change the patterns and habits that keep us from living the kind of fulfilling lives we so desire. I believe that a safe, secure, and non-judgmental therapeutic presence inspires greater curiosity and compassion toward ourselves, so that we can begin to gain insight into our behaviors and make the kinds of changes that lead to greater happiness and more fulfilling relationships with ourselves and others.
Dr Joanie Albrecht
For more than fifteen years, I have been working with individuals, couples, and adolescents as a psychotherapist. Some of the skills that I bring to the therapeutic relationship are: a deep care and compassion for the struggles and difficulties that clients face, a great respect for each person's unique path, a keen interest in the workings of the psyche, and an unshakable belief in everyone's capacity for growth and wholeness.
I believe that the disruptions and struggles we encounter can be true opportunities for making valuable changes in our lives. You may need short-term support to learn tools for specific situations. Or you may want to dig more deeply into the unconscious motivations that have shaped your patterns of relating.
We will work together to accomplish the goals you choose. My training in clinical psychology has provided me with many effective tools. I also bring to this work a depth psychology perspective, which means that I am very interested and attuned to the unconscious, including dreams.
When appropriate, I try to introduce mindfulness to clients. Mindfulness is a non-judgmental approach that allows one to have deeper awareness and compassion with difficult emotions as they arise.
I have extensive experience in the following areas:
- Twelve Step Recovery Support
- Chronic Stress and Trauma
- Relationship Struggles
- Self esteem issues
- Addictions and Other Compulsive Behaviors
- Dream Work
- Sexual Identity
Whether you are seeking individual, couples, or phone therapy, I initially schedule our appointments for a 60 minute time frame. We can negotiate for longer appointment times, depending on your needs. Some clients schedule 90 minute appointments, allowing for a longer time to more deeply engage with what is needing attention.
My goal is to make my services available and affordable. My fee is $75 for an hour appointment. I am willing to work on a sliding scale with you if this fee is prohibitive. We can discuss what might be affordable for you.
If you live in an area where it is difficult to locate a psychotherapist, or find it challenging to connect with a therapist who feels like a "good fit," you may want to consider therapy by phone.
Phone sessions can preserve both the privacy and intimacy of face-to-face sessions, and allow you to schedule your therapy time in the most convenient environment for you.
Call 808-573-0660 to arrange for a free phone conversation, and we can discuss what you are looking for and explore the possibility of our working together in this particular way.
